Frequently Asked Questions
I've tried to answer all the basic questions, but I'm sure there's something missing. If you think of it, please ask me.
- What is IB?
- What exactly is the point of the site?
- How often do you update the site?
- Who runs this site?
- Can't all this get you expelled or something?
- What software do you use to build the site?
- In your site, why do you talk about FOUR years of IB?
- What does (fill in the blank) stand for?
A: The abbreviation "IB" stands for International Baccalaureate, which is basically a college prep program with schools all over the globe. For accurate representation, check out the official IBO site.

Q: What exactly is the point of this site?
A: Well, as an IB graduate, I know that you develop a great feeling of bitterness (really, a love/hate relationship of sorts) towards the program. And I've noticed that IB kids love to verbally bash the program--all the time--as if dissing IB could ever make up for the fact that we're in the program. So this site is here so that we have a forum for complaining about our academically-centered lives. But seriously, IB does have its good points. Honestly.

Q: How often do you update the site?
A: Not often. I try to fix any errors as soon as I can. Tell me if you see any. Since I'm not a student anymore, I don't add much content these days

A: I'm glad you asked! The official taker-of-responsibility is me, Katie. I've completed IB as of May 2002, after spending 4 years in one of the States' best IB schools. I do all of the design and coding for the site, as well as most of the content, and credit for writing is given where deserved.

Q: Can't all this get you expelled or something?
A: According to the 1st amendment, I don't think so.
There have been a couple of "incidents" where schools found out about things posted on the site, and the students who wrote them did get in trouble (although I still have the understanding that any action taken against them for things published on the site is possibly illegal).
In fact, the people in charge of the IB program at my school and the school principal are all fans of the site. I've received compliments from several teachers that know about the site as well.
Basically, if you're going to post on the site, and it's going to be harsh, make sure there's no way they could tell you wrote it. (I don't keep records, so I can't snitch on you.)

Q: What software do you use to build the site?
A: I write most of my code in skEdit. Any graphics appearing on the site are also my creations, made with Adobe Photoshop.

A: IB technically only requires two years of work to get a diploma. But many schools recognize that most kids need to be eased into the torturous pain of those two years and create a 4 year program. I think we've got a better idea of what "real" IB is going to be like after those two intro years, but the bottom line is that it's hard work no matter how your school approaches it.

Q: Can I get an email address at ibscrewed.net?
A: No.

Q: What does (fill in the blank) stand for?
A: I know there are a lot of abbreviations thrown around. Here are all that I can think of right now (please let me know if there are more):
- IB: International Baccalaureate
- IBO: International Baccalaureate Organization (the head honchos)
- DC: Diploma Candidate
- CAS: Creativity Action & Service, required by IB
